CMRL Floats Rolling Stock Tender for Chennai Metro’s Phase 2

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has invited bids for procurement of 32 train sets (96 standard gauge metro coaches) for Chennai Metro Phase 2 project under package ARE04A.

Scope of work in this tender includes designing, manufacturing, supplying, testing, and commissioning of these 96 coaches for Chennai Metro Phase 2. The winning bidder will also be responsible for training of associated personnel as per the tender. As of now, the coaches to be procured have not been assigned to any particular line of Chennai Metro Phase 2, and therefore, they can be stationed at depots located in Madhavaram (for lines 3 and 5), Semmancheri (for line 3) or Poonamalee (line 4), until being assigned to a specific metro line.

Further, the winning bidder must deliver a 3-coach train prototype within a period of 630 days (about 1 year and 9 months) from the ‘date of commencement’ to be mentioned in the contract. The entire contract period has been specified as 1,300 days (approximately 3 years and 7 months), followed by 730 days (2 years) of Defects Notification Period (DNP), and 15 years of Comprehensive Maintainence Contract (CMC) period from the ‘commencement date’.
