CMRL Floats Rolling Stock Tender for Chennai Metro’s Phase 2 Project

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has floated a tender for design and supply of 210 metro coaches (Rolling Stock package ARE02A) for Line-3 and Line-5 of Chennai metro, which are 45.4 Km and 44.6 Km in length respectively. Line-3 will run from Madhavaram to Siruseri and Line-5 will operate from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur in Chennai.

Scope of work in this tender includes designing, manufacturing, supplying, testing, and commissioning of 210 standard gauge metro coaches for the aforementioned lines. The tender also comprises training of associated personnel.

The tender specified a contract period of 7,975 days (approximately 21 years and 10 months), which includes a 15-year maintenace period for rolling stock, depot machinery, and plant. This tender was also invited earlier in 2022 but was cancelled as CMRL had not received any bids for this project.
