BEML Emerges L1 Bidder for Rolling Stock Supply Contract in Chennai
BEML Limited has been declared as Lowest (L1) bidder for design and supply of 210 metro coaches for Chennai Metro Phase-2 project. These coaches will be deployed on Line-3 and Line-5 of Chennai Metro which are 45.4 Km and 44.6 Km in length respectively.
This project falls under package ARE02A of Chennai Metro. Line-3 will connect Madhavaram to Siruseri, while Line-5 will run from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. The coaches will be configured into 70 train sets, each consisting of three coaches arranged as follows: Driving Motor Coach (DMC) + Trailer Coach (TC) + DMC.
Scope of work in this project includes designing, manufacturing, supplying, testing, and commissioning of 210 standard gauge metro coaches for the specified lines. Additionally, training of relevant personnel will be part of the package. The tender specifies a contract period of 21 years and 10 months which includes a 15-year maintenance period.
In 2022, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) initially invited bids for this project, however, the tender was canceled due to lack of bids. CMRL subsequently reissued the tender in July 2023.
