Assam Petro-Chemicals Signs MoU with Deendayal Port Authority for e-Methanol Plant
Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited (APL), a PSU jointly owned by Oil India Limited and the Government of Assam, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deendayal Port Authority for developing an e-Methanol plant at Kandla Port in Gujarat. This plant will have a production capacity of 150 Tonnes Per Day (TPD).
An e-methanol (electro-methanol) plant produces sustainable, low-carbon fuel through the synthesis of green hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide.
This upcoming project will be developed with an investment of over Rs. 1,200 crore. As per the terms of the MoU, Deendayal Port Authority will facilitate pipeline connectivity, along with storage and fuel-handling infrastructure within the Kandla port. While APL will establish and operate the green methanol production unit.
The new e-methanol project is expected to create nearly 3,500 direct and indirect employment opportunities. Upon commissioning, this plant is expected to position Kandla Port as a major green-fuel supply hub. However, the timeline for completion of the e-methanol plant has not been disclosed.
