Post completion of the first 3 phases of development, Navi Mumbai greenfield airport will comprise two passenger terminals, dual runways, a multi-modal transport hub, cargo handling infrastructure, and a dedicated metro link.
Terminal 1 will have a passenger handling capacity of 20 million passengers per annum, and will be a multi-level structure with domestic and international piers and a parking facility. Terminal 2 will be larger in size, and will have an annual passenger handling capacity of 30 million passengers. A new 104-metre-high air traffic control tower will also be constructed.
Metro lines from both Mumbai and Navi Mumbai will connect directly to the airport premises. The multi-modal transport hub at the Navi Mumbai Airport will include an elevated metro station, a bus terminal, and skywalks linking the terminals.
To ensure smooth traffic flow, the airport will also feature flyovers, vehicular underpasses, and looped roadways for efficient movement of passengers and staff.
Navi Mumbai Airport Projected to Handle 90 Mn. Passengers Annually After Full Completion
Final two phases of development, that are Phase 4 and Phase 5, will each add capacity for an additional 20 million passengers annually. Once all five phases are complete, the airport will have a total annual capacity of 90 million passengers.
India’s Annual Airport Passenger Traffic to Grow to 450 Mn. in FY26
As per an April 2025 report by ICRA, India’s annual airport passenger traffic (domestic and international traffic taken together) is expected to grow to 440-450 million in FY26, which represents Year-over-Year (YoY) growth of 7-9% from FY25. In FY25, this figure was estimated at 412-415 million. The report also mentions that investments totaling over Rs. 1,00,000 crore are expected in Indian airport projects over the next 4-5 years.
Therefore, development of Navi Mumbai International Airport is cruicial, considering the increasing airport passenger traffic in India.
