ABB Launches LV Titanium Variable Speed Motor with VFD Function
ABB has launched LV Titanium Variable Speed Motor, a solution which combines the functionality of motor and Variable Speed Drive (VSD).
As per the company, these industrial motors can find applications in compressors, pumps, fans, and other such arrangements.
Easy Upgrade to VSD-Driven Motor with Minimum Investment
ABB describes its LV Titanium Variable Speed Motors as an easy replacement for the traditional Direct Online (DOL) motors. The company claims that its Variable Speed Motor offers an operational upgrade from DOL motors, while providing the benefits of a VSD in a cost-efficient way.
DOL motors do not offer any speed control, which can lead to inefficiency in their operation. On the other hand, Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) offer precise speed control, but are significantly more expensive than DOL motors.
Salient Features of ABB’s New Variable Speed Motor
ABB’s LV Titanium Variable Speed Motors can offer output in the range of 1.5 to 30 KW, and maximum speed of 4,500 rpm, 3,000 rpm or 1,500 rpm, depending on the variant. These motors have rated voltage of 80-480 V range at 50/60 Hz frequency.
Easy Installation, High Power Density
ABB’s Titanium LV Titanium Variable Speed Motor integrates a Permanent Magnet (PM) motor with a Variable Speed Drive into a single platform. The company describes it as a compact plug-and-play solution, which can be easily installed without needing any specially trained personnel.
It has higher power density than traditional induction motors, which means that the same amount of power and torque can be provided by a smaller VSD motor.
ABB is offering this new motor in frame sizes ranging from 71 mm to 160 mm. The frame material of these motors is cast iron.
MODBUS RTU Communication
LV Titanium Variable Speed Motor features a simple PLC, which can be connected to other PLCs and control devices. These motors can communicate using Modbus Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), and feature 4 Digital Inputs (DI), 1 Digital Output (DO), 2 Analog Inputs (AI) and 1 Read Only (RO) signal.
IE5 Efficiency Standard Offered, IP55 Compliant
ABB’s LV Titanium Variable Speed Motor offers IE5 standard of energy efficiency. IE5 is the highest class of energy efficiency for electric motors, which is also referred to as ‘ultra-premium efficiency’.
These motors offer IP55 standard of protection. Apart from this, they feature IC 416 forced cooling, meaning that they are totally enclosed motors which are cooled by a blower. These motors have been designed for use in ambient temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Celsius to +50 degrees Celsius.
