ChemVolt Global to Establish 5 GWh Lithium-Ion Cell Gigafactory in Andhra
ChemVolt Global Private Limited, a power, utility and energy solutions company, is developing a 5 GWh lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh government for establishment of this facility.
ChemVolt Global will invest Rs. 2,500 crore in the development of the facility. The plant will manufacture 314 ampere-hour (Ah) and 750 Ah prismatic lithium-ion cells, primarily intended for grid-scale energy storage applications and electric vehicles. The project will be implemented in a phased manner, with first phase targeting the commissioning of a one GWh production line by 2027, followed by an expansion to four GWh by 2029.
The upcoming manufacturing facility is expected to generate around 1,500 direct jobs and more than 4,000 indirect employment opportunities.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Kuldeep Gupta, Founder and CEO of ChemVolt Global, said, “The Andhra Pradesh gigafactory is envisioned as a national-scale manufacturing initiative—driving high-value job creation, strengthening domestic battery supply chains, and positioning India as a global hub for advanced lithium-ion cell production”.
