Hindustan Construction Company Wins Two Major Contracts for Patna Metro Rail Corp.

Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) Limited has won two underground construction contracts from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for Phase 1 of the Patna Metro Rail Project.

Construction packages PC-05 and PC-06 of Patna Metro Rail Project

One of the contracts is for package PC-05 of the Patna Metro project, which has been secured by the company with a bid of Rs. 1,418.30 crore. The other contract, package PC-06, will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,147.51 crore. Both of these packages fall under Line 1 of the Patna Metro Rail Project, which stretches 16.86 Km in length and will connect Danapur Cantonment to Khemni Chak.

Work Details in Package PC-05

Scope of work in package PC-05 of the Patna Metro project includes the designing and construction of a 10.67-Km-long twin tunnel along with an underground ramp from Mithapur to Vikas Bhawan. In addition, the company will be responsible for building three metro stations located at Vikas Bhawan, Vidyut Bhawan, and Patna Station as a part of this package.

HCC Constructions’ Scope of Work in Package PC-06

Package PC-06 involves designing and construction of three underground metro stations situated at Rukanpura, Raja Bazar, and Patna Zoo.

Additional Works and Completion Timeline

Both of the aforementioned packages also include architectural finishing, sanitary installations, water supply, and drainage works of the stations along the Danapur to Khemni Chak Corridor of Phase I of the Patna Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS).

These projects specify a completion period of 42 months from the date of receiving the Letter of Award (LoA). Hindustan Construction Company had emerged as the Lowest (L1) bidder for these contracts in June 2025.

Overview of Patna Metro Rail Project

Patna Metro project is an under-construction urban rapid transit system with a 30.91-Km network featuring two lines and 24 stations. Line 1 will run from Danapur Cantonment to Khemnichak while, Line 2 will connect Patna Junction to the Patliputra Bus Terminal (New ISBT).

This entire Patna Metro Rail Project, with an estimated cost of around Rs. 13,925 crore, is funded by a combination of contributions from the state government, the central government, and a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRCL) owns and operates the system, while the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is involved in the design and construction of certain packages.
