Tamil Nadu Govt. Allocates Rs. 2,126 Crore for Metro Line to Parandur Airport
Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs. 2,126 crore for preparatory work on metro connectivity that will link Chennai city to the proposed greenfield airport at Parandur. Out of this total amount, Rs. 1,836 crore has been allocated for land acquisition purposes and the remaining Rs. 252 crore has been set aside for preliminary civil work.
This allocation will primarily support the first phase of this project, which targets to extend Chennai Metro’s Line-4 by 28 Km from Poonamallee to Sunguvarchatram town in Tamil Nadu through 14 stations, namely Nazarathpet, Chembarambakkam, Kuthambakkam Bus Terminus, Samathuvapuram, Chettipedu, Thandalam, SIPCOT Irungattukottai, Pennalur, Sriperumbudur, Pattunool Chatram, Irungulam Industrial Area, Mambakkam, Thirumangalam, and Sunguvarchatram. Phase II will add a 25 km section connecting Sunguvarchatram to the Parandur airport, with 6 stations along the route.
It must be noted that Chennai Metro’s Corridor 4 is already under construction from Lighthouse to Poonamallee in Chennai.
