Asheesh Kumar Appointed Coal India’s Director (Business Development)

Mr. Asheesh Kumar has been appointed as Coal India Limited (CIL)‘s Director (Business Development) for a period of 5 years. This announcement was made through the company’s stock filing dated 21st August 2025.

Mr. Kumar is a 1993 B.Tech graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology (formerly Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad. In 2000, he obtained First Class Managers Competency Certificate from Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS). He also holds a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, located in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

With over 30 years of experience in the mining sector, Mr. Kumar has worked across multiple domains, including operations, contract management, vigilance, policy formulation, planning, and project monitoring. He began his career with Coal India in 1994 as a Graduate Engineer Trainee (Mining) at Central Coalfields Limited. Mr. Kumar went on to hold key positions in the company such as those of Senior Mining Engineer, Superintendent of Mines, and General Manager. He has also served as a project advisor to the Ministry of Coal, contributing towards ease of doing business in the Coal sector through policy reforms.
