Schneider Electric Infrastructure Ltd. (SEIL) will be expanding its circuit breaker manufacturing capacity substantially at its Kolkata and Vadodara plants. This capacity expansion will entail a total investment of about Rs. 200.80 crore by the company.

Schneider Electric’s Investment to be Funded through Internal Accruals

Schneider Electric will fund the aforementioned expansion through its internal accruals. This capacity addition at Kolkata and Vadodara plants is expected to be complete in FY27.

Schneider to Increase Production at Kolkata to 9x of Current Capacity

Schneider Electric will increase its circuit breaker manufacturing capacity at its Kolkata plant to 45,000 circuit breakers per annum from the current 5,000 circuit breakers annually. Therefore, the plant’s capacity will grow to 9 times its current capacity. About Rs. 90.60 crore will be invested by Schneider for this expansion in Kolkata.

As of now, Schneider Electric’s Kolkata plant is functioning at 90% capacity utilisation, and this expansion is expected to address the growing market demand for circuit breakers.

Discussing capacity expansion at its Kolkata plant during the company’s FY25 earnings call, Ms. Suparna Bhattacharyya, SEIL’s CFO, said, “…there is certainly a need from the market side as well as our own need for sustaining our business…and [this expansion] would definitely add to the incremental revenue”. She added that capacity enhancement at Kolkata facility will cater to not only the Indian market, but also to overseas markets.

Schneider to Infuse Rs. 110 Cr. in Vadodara Switchgear Plant

Schneider Electric will invest Rs. 110.20 crore out of the total at its Vadodara plant. This investment will be targeted towards increasing switchgear panel production to 14,000 panels per annum from the current 6,000 panels annually.

Like the company’s Kolkata plant, Schneider’s Vadodara switchgear manufacturing facility is currently operating at about 90% capacity utilisation.

Schneider Electric Expanding its Presence in India

Schneider Electric is in the process of expanding its presence in India, which includes setting up new plants and expanding production at its existing factories in India. Mr. Olivier Blum, CEO of Schneider Electric, had announced during ELECRAMA 2025 that the company will set up 3 new plants in India, one each in Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Ahmednagar.

Separately, in a February 2025 interview with CNBC-TV18, Mr. Blum had mentioned that India is a key market for Schneider Electric. He shared that in 2008, India was not even among the top 10 markets for Schneider Electric, but now, India is the company’s third-largest market.
