Mr. S. M. Ramanathan Appointed as BHEL’s Director (Engg., R&D)

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has appointed Mr. S. M. Ramanathan as Director (Engineering, Research & Development).

Mr. S. M. Ramanathan completed B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras in 1988 and M.Tech in Stress & Vibration Analysis from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology in 1992. He is also member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. Mr. Ramanathan has 37 years of experience across many major functions of the company, which include engineering, design, Research & Development, and strategic management.

He started his career with BHEL as an engineer trainee in the company’s High Pressure Boiler Plant (HPBP), Tiruchirappalli in 1988. He started serving as the company’s Additional General Manager in 2011 and promoted to the General Manager position in June 2017. Before being appointed as BHEL’s Director (Engineering, Research & Development), Mr. Ramanathan was serving as the company’s Executive Director since January 2024.
