Polycab India Wins Rs. 3,003 Cr. Contract for BharatNet Project

Polycab India Limited has secured an order worth Rs. 3,002.99 crore for executing works on middle mile network in BharatNet phase-III project in Bihar telecom circle. The company has won this order from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. under package 7.
The company had emerged as Lowest (L1) bidder for this project in November 2024.
Polycab India’s Scope of Work for BharatNet Phase-III Project
Scope of work in this order for Polycab India includes executing works pertaining to design, supply, construction and installation of middle-mile network* in Bihar telecom circle under BharatNet project phase-III. The company will also provide Operation & Maintenance (O&M) services for this project.
*Middle-mile network refers to the network that connects last mile or the local area network to rest of the internet infrastructure.
Polycab to Develop and Maintain BharatNet Middle-Mile Network in Bihar
As per the aforementioned order, Polycab will develop the middle-mile network in Bihar over a period of 3 years, with an estimated cost of Rs. 1,549.66 crore.
Once the network is established, the company will be responsible for its Operation and Maintenance (O&M) for the next 10 years. Polycab India will carry out O&M for the network at a rate of 5.5% of the development cost for the first 5 years and 6.5% for the next 5 years. This means the company will undertake O&M work totaling Rs. 929.79 crore over the 10-year period for the BharatNet middle-mile network in Bihar.
In addition, Polycab India will also manage O&M for the existing BharatNet middle-mile network in Bihar, with O&M services for the current network valued at approximately Rs. 523.53 crore.
BharatNet Phase-3 Project to Expand High-Speed Internet Access in Rural India
The BharatNet project will expand the size of India’s fibre rollout service market. The third phase of the project targets to deliver high-speed internet to remote and rural areas across the country. The BharatNet Phase-3 plans to bring broadband connectivity to approximately 2,50,000 previously unconnected Gram Panchayats (GPs), covering around 6,40,000 villages. Additionally, it will enhance internet connectivity in GPs already connected during BharatNet Phase-1 and Phase-2. The network will be structured in multiple rings, each linking 8-10 GPs, with a minimum of 100 Mbps bandwidth provided to every GP under the Phase-3 rollout.
