Schneider Electric, Welspun to Execute India’s Largest Water Treatment Plant at Bhandup
Schneider Electric has been awarded a contract to automate India’s largest Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Bhandup, Mumbai. The 2,000 Million Litre per Day (MLD) facility will provide potable water to 22 million people in Maharashtra.
Schneider Electric to Deploy Array of Electrical Solutions for Bhandup WTP
The awarded contract aims to automate the Bhandup plant with Schneider Electric’s technologies to maximise efficiency and increase water treatment capacity. Schneider will execute this project using its proprietary EcoStruxure Power and Process automation solutions, which include the EcoStruxure Process Expert M580-EPA Automation platform, Altivar Process Drives, PRISMA LV panel boards, Power Quality solution, Easergy relays, Transformers, MV switchboards, and UPS solutions.
Welspun- The Executing EPC for Bhandup WTP
Welspun had won the contract to commission the aforementioned WTP of 2000 MLD capacity in March, 2024 from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The winning bid by Welspun was valued at Rs. 4,123.88 Crores. Scope of work for the contract includes the design, construction, and operations & maintenance of the plant. The value also includes an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) component of Rs. 1,880.44 crores.
New Bhandup WTP to Address Mumbai’s Water Needs
Bhandup WTP is a major source for tap water supply in Mumbai.
Bhandup WTP at present has capacity of recycling 2,810 MLD of water every day of which 1,910 MLD plant is more than 44 years old and in need of major maintenance and overhaul. The new automated plant will contribute 2,000 MLD more to this capacity with increased efficiency.
