JSW Steel to Commission 5 MMTPA Vijayanagar Plant Expansion in Q4 FY-25
JSW Steel Ltd., a major Indian Steel producer, plans to fully commission its 5 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) integrated Steel project at its Vijayanagar Steel Plant in Q4 of FY-25, taking the plant’s total production to 17.5 MMTPA from 12.5 MMTPA. JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar plant is India’s largest single-location integrated Steel plant.
Post completion of the ongoing Rs. 15,000 crore expansion at JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar plant, the company’s total Steel production capacity in India will be 34.2 MMTPA from the current 29.2 MMTPA. This brownfield expansion was started in January 2022, and is being executed over an area of 600 acre at Vijayanagar by JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd. (JVML), a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Steel. Looking ahead, JSW Steel targets a production capacity of 42 MMTPA in India by September 2027.
In its stock filing dated 10th January 2025, JSW Steel elaborated on the extent of progress of the Vijayanagar Steel plant expansion. The company mentioned that already a 4.5 MMTPA blast furnace has been commissioned at Vijayanagar plant along with Raw Material handling system and sinter plant in Q2 of FY-25. Moreover, during Q3 of FY-25, JSW Vijayanagar Metallics commissioned one of the two convertors at the plant’s Steel Melt Shop.
