NLC India JV Will Setup 1000 MW Solar Projects in Assam
NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NLC India Ltd., has signed a Joint Venture (JV) agreement with Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for setting up 1,000 MW of solar power projects in Assam.
As a part of this Joint Venture, NLC India Renewables will be responsible for providing its technical expertise for the development of solar power projects. Assam Power Distribution Company’s responsibilities will include acquiring land and securing necessary approvals for the development of the solar power projects. The power generated from these solar power projects will be supplied to Distribution Companies (DISCOMS) of Assam for a period of 25 years.
NLC India Renewables will have major share of 51% in this upcoming JV while the remaining 49% will be held by Assam Power Distribution Co.
Commenting on this development, Mr. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman of NIRL said “By leveraging the synergies between NIRL and APDCL, we aim to build robust infrastructure for renewable energy and distribution. This initiative will not only ensure energy security for Assam but also catalyze socio-economic development by creating green jobs and enhancing the State’s sustainability index”.
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) 2022-23 report suggests that Assam has the potential to develop 14,235 MW of Renewable Energy (RE) with solar being the largest source at 13,760 MW.
