Schneider Electric Launches ‘Galaxy VXL’ High-Density UPS

Schneider Electric logo

Schneider Electric has launched ‘Galaxy VXL’, a high-density 3-phase UPS suited for deployment in large data centres and factories. This UPS has been designed to handle extensive loads, including those in Artificial Intelligence (AI) processing data centres.

Salient Features of Schneider’s Galaxy VXL UPS

Schneider’s new UPS features a modular design with live swap feature. While Galaxy VXL’s modular design supports scalable deployment, live swap enables power modules to be added, removed or replaced while the UPS is live and running.

Each of Galaxy VXL’s modules are of 125 KW, which can be used to scale up the capacity of the UPS from 500 KW to 1,200 KW in increments of 125 KW.

The maximum power density offered by Galaxy VXL is 1,042 KW/square metre, making it suitable for deployment in confined spaces. As per Schneider Electric, the Galaxy VXL is 52% smaller than the industry average. Schneider’s release pertaining to Galaxy VXL states: “For a typical 12.5 MW data center operating in a 2N architecture, this means a significant saving of 26 sq.metre in floor area compared to the competition…”. Schneider’s new UPS features a 10-inch colour display.

Schneider’s Galaxy VXL is designed for 380 V, 400 V and 415 V input voltage in a frequency range of 40-70 Hz. Output frequency of this UPS is in the 50-60 Hz range. Maximum short circuit rating of this UPS has been specified as 100 KA Icw, that is, the device can withstand a maximum current of 100 KA for 1 second without taking any damage. As for ingress protection, the UPS has been rated as IP20.

Moreover, Schneider Electric’s Galaxy VXL is compatible with Li-ion batteries as well as Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries.

Default Functioning in Schneider’s Patented eConversion Mode

Galaxy VXL functions in Schneider’s patented eConversion mode by default. Schneider claims that this mode increases UPS efficiency to up to 99%. Apart from this mode, Schneider’s Galaxy UPS can function in Double Conversion mode with an efficiency of up to 97.5%, and in ECO mode with up to 99% efficiency.
