Indian solar cell & module manufacturer WAAREE will be investing about USD 1 billion (approximately Rs. 8,333 crore) by 2027 to set up a solar module manufacturing facility in Brookshire, Texas, USA.

WAAREE’s Unit to have 3 GW Initial Capacity, to be Scaled Up to 5 GW

WAAREE’s Texas facility is expected to be inaugurated by 2024-end, and it will have an initial annual manufacturing capacity of 3 GW of solar modules. This capacity will subsequently be scaled up to 5 GW by 2027.

WAAREE to Supply US-Manufactured Modules to SB Energy for 5 Years

Post-commissioning its Texas facility, WAAREE will be supplying solar modules to US-based Renewable Energy (RE) company, SB Energy Global LLC, for a period of 5 years.

About this partnership, Mr. Hitesh Doshi, Chairman and Managing Director, Waaree Energies, said, “In partnership with a company of SB Energy’s mission and stature, Waaree is fostering a solar manufacturing ecosystem in Texas, a state that has taken a leading position in clean energy manufacturing”.

High-Efficiency Mono-PERC & TOPCon Modules to be Manufactured at WAAREE’s Plant

Solar Cell Manufacturing

WAAREE’s planned facility will produce Mono-PERC (Passivated Emitter and rear Cell) solar modules as well as TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) solar modules. While Mono-PERC is an improved variant of monocrystalline solar module technology, TOPCon solar modules use n-type semiconductors.

Both Mono-PERC and TOPCon modules feature higher efficiency (efficiency over 20%) than the widely-used monocrystalline (15-24% efficiency) and polycrystalline (13-16% efficiency) solar panels. Further, Mono-PERC and TOPCon modules perform better even in low-light conditions as compared to mono or polycrystalline p-type solar modules.

WAAREE’s US Facility to Create 1,500 Jobs, Raw Material to be Sourced Locally

WAAREE’s Texas facility, when fully operational, will create employment opportunities for about 1,500 people in the Houston region.

Further, Mr. Sunil Rathi, Board member, Waaree Solar Americas Inc. stated that most raw materials for the manufacturing of solar modules at the company’s Texas facility will be sourced domestically, thus reducing USA’s dependence on imports.

About WAAREE: WAAREE is a major Indian manufacturer of solar panels and modules. Other than solar equipment manufacturing, the company provides solar EPC solutions. The company currently has manufacturing units in Umbergaon and Surat, Gujarat.
