Indian mining giant, Vedanta Ltd., has emerged as the preferred bidder for mineral blocks situated in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. In Odisha, the company is the preferred bidder for the Sijimali Bauxite Block, while in Chhattisgarh, it is the preferred bidder for the Kelwardabri Nickel, Chromium and Associated Platinum Group Elements (PGE) Block.
In a stock filing dated 15th February 2023, the company said about the Sijimali block, “The block is a strategic fit for Vedanta given its size, location, and bauxite quality. The block has estimated reserves of 311 million tonnes of bauxite.”
In a separate stock filing dated 16th February 2023, Vedanta stated that Government of Chhattisgarh had invited bids for the Kelwardabri block on 11th October 2022. The company was declared the preferred bidder for this block vide a notice from Mineral Resource Department, Chhattisgarh, dated 3rd February 2023.
