Uno Minda to Invest Rs. 1,415 Cr. for Capacity Expansion Projects

Uno Minda Limited, a manufacturer and supplier of automotive components, has announced investments of Rs. 1,415 crore for various capacity expansion projects. The company will fund the development of these projects through term loans and internal accruals.

The expansion projects will include both greenfield and brownfield projects across different locations in the country.

Greenfield Expansion Projects in Tamil Nadu, Haryana & Maharashtra

Uno Minda to Develop Rs. 510 Cr. Auto-Components Plant in Hosur

Uno Minda’s expansion plans include a new manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, with an investment of Rs. 510 crore. This plant will be developed in phases over the next three years, with phase 1 expected to commence production by Q4 FY28.

The upcoming facility will manufacture components for engine applications, EV and powertrain, structural, and general applications. High-Pressure Die-Casting (HPDC) alloy wheels for two-wheelers will also be manufactured at this plant, with an annual capacity of 1 Mn. Further, this plant will also include Aluminium casting with a capacity of 20,557 Metric Tonnes (MT) per annum.

The land for this project has already been acquired by the company.

Uno Minda’s Hosur facility will address surging demand for auto-components from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), especially in South India.

Alloy Wheel Plant to Come up in Kharkhoda

Uno Minda will also set up a two-wheeler alloy wheel plant at Kharkhoda, Haryana. This facility will be developed over a period of next two years, with an investment of Rs. 155 crore. Phase 1 of the project will commence production by Q4 of FY28.

The new alloy wheel plant will have a capacity of 1.3 Million Units, and the company will also relocate 2 Million Units of existing capacity from Supa, Maharashtra, to Kharkhoda. Following the relocation, this plant’s capacity will reach 3.3 Million Units.

Currently, the company’s overall capacity for its Alloy Wheel Two-Wheeler division stands at 8 million wheels per annum.

Uno Minda’s Subsidiary to Produce Interior & Exterior Automotive Products

The company has also approved a Rs. 670 crore capacity expansion project by Toyoda Gosei South India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Toyoda Gosei Uno Minda India Pvt. This investment will fund a new plant at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, to manufacture interior and exterior automotive products, including airbags, hoses, and body sealing parts.

Uno Minda’s Maharashtra plant will have a manufacturing capacity of 0.15 million units per annum. Currently, this capacity is at 0.45 million units per annum. The company will develop the upcoming plant in phases, with production starting by Q4 of FY29.

Brownfield Capacity Expansion to Come up in Bengaluru

Along with the greenfield developments, Uno Minda has also approved a brownfield capacity expansion for its JV company, Uno Minda Kyoraku Ltd., with an investment of Rs. 80 crore in Bengaluru.

The Bengaluru plant manufactures automotive components such as roof ducts, IP ducts, spoilers, washer bottles, deck boards and EA pads, with an annual production capacity of 3.28 million units. This expansion will add another 1.38 Million Units, taking the facility’s total annual capacity to around 4.66 million units.

This expanded capacity is expected to go live in Q1 FY28.
