Torrent Power Acquires L&T’s Nabha Power for Rs. 3,632 Cr.

Torrent Power Limited has acquired Nabha Power Limited from L&T Power Development Limited for Rs. 3,632.35 crore. The acquisition became effective on 25th June 2026 after receiving approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

Following the acquisition, Nabha Power has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Torrent Power. The company owns and operates a coal-based supercritical thermal power plant at Nalash village near Rajpura in Punjab’s Patiala district. The plant comprises two supercritical thermal power units of 700 MW each, coming to a total installed capacity of 1,400 MW.

Nabha Power was incorporated in 2007 by L&T Power Development to develop the Rajpura Thermal Power Plant, which was commissioned in 2014.

Explaining the rationale behind the transaction, L&T mentioned that this is aligned with its strategy to exit the development projects business. Torrent Power, meanwhile, said that the acquisition has marked its entry into the power market of northern India. The company added that the acquisition is expected to boost its overall revenue and profitability.
