Tata Group Plans to Setup Rs. 25,000 Cr. Semiconductor Packaging Plant in Assam

Tata Group plans to establish a semiconductor packaging plant valued at Rs. 25,000 crore in Assam. This announcement was made by Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, during the Digital India Future Skills Summit held in Guwahati. Tata Group company-Tata Electronics in December submitted an application to set up an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Assam. The company has also applied for the INR 76,000 Crore PLI Scheme for subsidy on semiconductor manufacturing.

Mr. Chandrasekhar indicated that the project is currently under evaluation and approvals are expected to be finalized soon, followed by submission to the Cabinet for final sanction. He further stated to PTI “If all goes well, we will see a major investment in the state, which will create a positive environment for industrialisation. We are in touch with the Centre and hope that the final approval will be given in a month or two”.
