Sweden’s Saab to open Manufacturing unit in India for Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon system
Sweden-headquartered aerospace and defence manufacturer Saab AB has announced to set up facility for manufacturing Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon system-Rocket launcher system in India. Saab stated that the new manufacturing facility in India would help enhance its production capabilities of Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon system. Saab’s Carl-Gustaf M4 is a recoilless rifle launched in 2014 by Saab AB. The M4 weapon system is capable of firing a variety of ammunition — including anti-armour and illumination rounds — with the maximum range being 1,500 metre.
Saab stated that it is looking at the 100% FDI route for setting up this new venture. Alternatively, it may pursue the 74% FDI option with an Indian partner. The company is aiming to roll out its first product by 2024. Saab also informed that Indian Army has already placed order with it for buying undisclosed number of Carl-Gustaf M4 system.
