Suzlon Energy Secures 248.85 MW Wind Order from ArcelorMittal

Suzlon Energy Ltd. has secured a 248.85 MW wind energy order from ArcelorMittal Group. This is Suzlon’s first order received from ArcelorMittal Group and will be carried out in Bachau, Gujarat.

The order entails the supply of 79 Nos. of Suzlon’s S144 Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs), which will have a capacity of 3.15 MW each. The awarded order is part of ArcellorMittal’s 550 MW Renewable Energy (RE) project in Bachau, which consists of 300 MW of solar power and 250 MW of Wind Power.

As such, Suzlon will aid in setting up ArcelorMittal’s wind power project. The power generated from this project will be used for ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Ltd.’s facilities for green steel production in India.

This is the fourth major wind energy order booked by Suzlon over the past 12 months that will help in decarbonizing steel production in India. As per the company’s press release Suzlon will now contribute 1,156 MW of power required for green steel production.

Commenting on this development, Mr. Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group, said, “Steel is the backbone of India’s infrastructure, yet it remains one of the most energy-intensive industries. As the sector accelerates its journey toward decarbonization, renewable energy has become a competitive and viable contributor.”
