Shree Cement Limited has inaugurated its new cement production plant at Dachepalli village in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. This new facility, built with an investment of over Rs. 2,500 crore has a cement production capacity of 3 Million Metric Tonne Per Annum (MMTPA).

Shree Cement Expands National Presence and Production Capacity

Shree Cement’s newly commissioned plant is its sixth production facility nationwide and its second in Southern India, after Kodla cement plant in Karnataka. The company stated in its stock filing dated 2nd April 2024 that the Andhra Pradesh cement plant has been inaugurated “six months ahead of schedule”. Shree Cement added that this new plant “will propel Shree Cement’s manufacturing capacity to 56.4 MTPA, further solidifying its position as a key player in the cement industry”.

Shree Cement’s Plant Powered by Renewable Energy, Facility ‘Water Positive’

Shree Cement’s new production plant will meet 75% of its power needs through a 12 MW in-house Waste Heat Recovery Plant and a 21.5 MW solar power plant.

As per Shree Cement’s release, “the plant operates as a zero-wastage facility and is entirely water positive”. ‘Water Positive’ means that the Guntur plant returns more water, mainly rainwater, to the mining pit than it consumes during its operations. Additionally, the plant is equipped with air-cooled Screw Compressors and air dryers instead of traditional water-cooled systems, thereby minimising water usage.

The company’s plant also includes a Limestone crusher positioned 40 feet below the ground within the mining pit. This placement in the mining pit reduces diesel consumption for transportation, thereby reducing emissions.

We’re committed to growing responsibly. The Guntur plant reflects this by using advanced technology for manufacturing and controlling emissions, making high-quality cement with efficient use of energy.” said Mr. Neeraj Akhoury.

Guntur Plant to Create 2,000 Employment Opportunities

Shree Cement’s newly commissioned plant will cater to markets in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This plant is expected to generate approximately 700 direct and 1,300 indirect employment opportunities.

Commenting on this development, Mr. Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director of Shree Cement Ltd., said, “The plant will…drive economic growth and well-being in the area through employment opportunities and partnership with local communities. Our focus remains on serving people, suppliers, customers and communities, aiming for inclusive value creation.”

Shree Cement Targets 80 MMTPA Cement Capacity by 2028

The commissioning of this new plant in Andhra Pradesh aligns with Shree Cement’s target of achieving a production capacity of 80 MMTPA by 2028. The company plans to operate 13 additional plants by that year, with five scheduled to be commissioned in FY-25.
