Shibaura Machine India to Invest 225 Cr. to Set up New Unit in Chennai

Shibaura Machine India (SMI), a subsidiary of Japan-based Shibaura Machine, will be investing Rs. 225 crore to develop a new plastic moulding machines manufacturing unit, spread over an area of about 11 acre. SMI’s new unit will be situated adjacent to its existing facility in Chennai.

This investment will ramp up the company’s manufacturing capacity in India from the current 1,200 plastic moulding machines annually to 3,200 machines per year.

Shibaura Machine acquired 100% stake in L&T Plastics Machinery Ltd. in 2012, and incorporated Toshiba Machine Chennai Pvt. Ltd. In 2020, the company was renamed Shibaura Machine India Pvt. Ltd.
