RVNL Wins Rs. 447 Cr. Civil Works Order on Saket G block-Lajpat Nagar Corridor

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has received a Letter of Award (LoA) worth Rs. 447.42 crore from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The civil works contract, designated as D2C-02, pertains to the Golden Line Extension, covering the stretch between Lajpat Nagar and Saket G Block in Delhi.
Golden Line to Improve South Delhi’s Connectivity
Golden Line, part of Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 expansion, consists of two sections: Line-10 and Line-11. Line-10 spans 23.62 Km, connecting Aerocity to Tughlakabad via 15 stations. RVNL’s contract is for Line-11, which will run for 8.385 Km from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block, further enhancing connectivity in South Delhi.
RVNL’s Scope of Work for Delhi Metro’s Line-11
Under this contract, RVNL will undertake the design and construction of a 7.298 Km long elevated viaduct, starting from chainage 1202.782 m to 8501.25 m. RVNL will also construct platforms for seven elevated stations at Pushp Vihar, Saket District Court, Pushpa Bhawan, Chirag Delhi, GK-1, Andrews Ganj, and Lajpat Nagar. The concourse level for these stations will be built under a separate contract. The contract’s scope also includes building Pre-Engineered Structures at all stations along this corridor, which comprise the above-mentioned 7 elevated stations along with Saket G block metro station. The project is scheduled to be completed in a period of 36 months.
Interestingly, except the 140 m (platform length) Pushp Vihar metro station on this route, all the other metro stations will have a platform length of 74 m, which is adequate for running operations with 3-coach metro trains.
Delhi’s First 3-Coach Metro Train Route
Saket G block – Lajpat Nagar corridor of the Delhi Metro Golden Line is Delhi’s first route designed for 3-coach metro trains. This route has been specifically designed to reduce traffic congestion in South Delhi by improving short-distance urban travel. Once completed, this stretch of the Golden Line (Line-11) is anticipated to serve about 80,000 passengers per day.
Part of Delhi Metro Phase 4 Expansion
The Golden Line is a crucial component of the 112.42 Km Delhi Metro Phase 4 network, being developed by DMRC. This project received approval from the Central Government in March 2019. Initially named Silver Line in 2020, it was renamed to Gold Line in November 2023 and finally renamed to Golden Line in January 2024.
Once completed, it is expected to significantly improve urban mobility and reduce congestion in the national capital. As per Dutch geolocation technology platform, TomTom, Delhi is the world’s 44th most congested city in terms of traffic. Delhi Metro is the busiest metro network in the country with daily ridership of about 71 lakh passengers, and an operational length of 395 Km.
