Pegatron, a Tiawanese electronics company, inaugurated its Apple iPhone manufacturing facility in Mahindra World City, Chennai on 30th September 2022. This has made Pegatron the third company to start iPhone manufacturing in India, the first two being Foxconn and Wistron.
Pegatron, which had applied for the Centre’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for electronics, will be investing Rs. 1,100 crore in this manufacturing unit. This facility will generate about 14,000 jobs. This development comes within 18 months since Pegatron signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu Government for setting up this facility in February 2021.
As per analysts at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., Apple is expected to move one-fourth of its iPhone production to India by 2025.
