Ola Partners with Siemens to Build India’s Largest Electric Scooter Factory

Ola Electric Mobility Pvt. Ltd., the EV arm of Ola Cabs announced that it has partnered with Siemens to build its upcoming electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. As reported last month by CableCommunity.com, Ola Electric had earlier signed an MoU with Tamil Nadu government for setting up a manufacturing facility with an investment of around 2,400 Crore.

Ola’s EV Factory to be Based on Industry 4.0 and Siemens Digital-Twin Technology

Ola in its press release mentioned that its new Tamil Nadu based electric vehicles facility will be built on Industry 4.0 principles (IoT and Automation based). It will have almost 5,000 robots deployed across various functions.

Siemens will be providing Ola its integrated Digital-Twin* design and manufacturing solutions to digitalize and validate production process ahead of beginning actual operations.

*Digital twin is a replica of real plant in the cloud with all the instruments running on real-time data

Use of Ola’s Proprietary Artificial Intelligence Technology

Ola’s new electric vehicle factory will be AI-Powered with Ola’s proprietary AI Engine and its tech stack, which will be integrated into every aspect of the manufacturing process of electric scooters. Through this the company wants to achieve control, automation and quality for the entire operations.

The whole process of material handling for manufacturing Ola’s Electric scooters will be fully automated for maximum efficiency, right from raw materials, to materials movement inside the factory, to storage, to the finished scooter rolling off the production lines and being loaded onto trucks.

Ola Electric Mobility and Etergo BV

Ola started its wholly owned subsidiary Ola Electric Mobility Pvt. Ltd. in May 2017 in order to venture into the Electric vehicles space. Later in May 2020 Ola Electric Mobility acquired Amsterdam-based Electric two-wheeler manufacturer, Etergo BV. Amsterdam based Etergo BV was founded in 2014; its all-electric scooter called AppScooter uses a stack of upto 3 swappable high energy density batteries offering a range of upto 80 Km per battery. It was widely reported at the time that Ola had plans to launch these electric scooters in India by early 2021.
