MMRDA to Ease Traffic Congestion With Rs. 4,529.72 Cr. Elevated Corridor Projects
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is developing two projects collectively worth Rs. 4,529.72 crore aimed at easing traffic congestion at Eastern Express Highway in Thane, Maharashtra. One of these projects is valued at Rs. 1,847.72 crore, for developing an elevated road corridor stretching from Anand Nagar to Saket in Thane. The other is valued at Rs. 2,682 crore for the elevated Eastern Freeway Extension that will run from Chheda Nagar, Ghatkopar to Anand Nagar in Thane.
On the other hand, Anand Nagar to Saket 6-lane elevated corridor will be constructed on the Eastern Express Highway spanning 8.24 Km. Development of this corridor will be done over a period of 48 months.
Chheda Nagar to Anand Nagar 6 lane Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension alignment will be 13.9 Km long. This project will also be developed over 48 months. This elevated extension will pass through Mulund, Airoli, JVLR, Kanjurmarg, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar and end at Chheda Nagar. Additionally, this extension will merge with Anand Nagar to Saket Elevated Road at Mulund Octroi Naka.
Eastern Express Highway faces heavy traffic as it passes through major junctions. It carries heavy traffic from Mumbai to Gujarat and Nashik to Gujarat, and also from Mumbai Ahmedabad highway. These factors add to heavy to and fro traffic on Eastern Express Highway in Thane. Construction of these two projects by MMRDA will ease traffic congestion for both local and intercity commuters and also help to conserve fuel and reduce travel time.
