Google’s Major Investment of USD 15 Billion in Vizag
Google has announced a USD 15 billion (Rs.1.33 lakh crore) investment to develop a GW-scale AI Hub in Vizag over the next 5 years. This marks the company’s largest investment yet in India. The investment will include construction of data center campuses in partnership with AdaniConneX.
The data center campus will integrate Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) systems. TPUs are basically application-specific Integrated Circuits (ICs) developed by Google. These are used for training and inference of AI models. GPU helps in parallel processing and high-performance computing tasks, including AI, simulations, graphics etc. TPUs and GPUs will provide higher efficiency and low latency in AI inference, and also computing capacity for deep learning and neural network training.
This investment also includes development of a new subsea Cable Landing Station(CLS) in Visakhapatnam, which will be executed in partnership with Airtel.
Google’s investment will result in creation of 5,000-6,000 direct jobs and 20,000-30,000 total Jobs. Google will use Renewable Energy to power its AI hub in Andhra. This will lead to the development of Renewable Energy projects in Andhra Pradesh.
