L&T L1 Bidder for Bullet Train Track Works with Rs. 4,571 Cr. Bid
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Ltd. has emerged as Lowest (L1) bidder with a bid of Rs. 4,571.37 crore for track works package T-1 of Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project. Tender for this package had been issued by National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL) in October 2024. This package is the third and final track installation package for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR Bullet Train) project.
Scope of work in this package includes designing, supplying, construction, testing and commissioning of tracks between at Bandra-Kurla complex station (MAHSR Km. -0.255) and Zaroli Village station (Km. 156.600) in Mumbai. Associated works also fall under the scope of work of this tender. These tracks will be laid for double-line high speed railway line of the MAHSR project. This package of the MAHSR Bullet Train project will be developed on Design-Build Lump Sum Price basis. NHSRCL has specified a completion period of 2,157 days (about 5 years and 11 months) for works under this package.
DRA Infracon – DMRC Joint Venture (JV) was the second lowest bidder for this package with a bid of Rs. 4,776.05 crore.
MAHSR Bullet Train project is using a special slab track system instead of the conventional ballast-less tracks. In October 2023, L&T had opened its dedicated facility to manufacture special slab tracks in Anand, Gujarat. Special slab track system was evolved for the Japanese Shinkansen high speed railway, where it was first deployed in 1964. Special slab track requires lower maintenance as compared to ballast-less tracks, and is more suited for use in rail routes with high traffic density.
