L&T Emerges L1 Bidder for Hyderabad’s 5,688 Cr. Airport Metro Line Project

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a major Indian EPC player, has emerged as the Lowest (L1) bidder for construction of the 31 Km long Hyderabad Airport metro line. Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd. (HAML) invited bids for this project in May 2023, specifying an estimated cost of Rs. 5,688 crore.
Airport Metro Line to be Developed under Hyderabad Metro’s Phase 2 Project
Airport Metro line will be developed under Hyderabad Metro’s Phase 2 project. This line will connect Mindspace Junction with Rajiv Gandhi International (Shamshabad) Airport through 10 stations.
The Airport Metro line will be elevated for a stretch of 28.5 Km while its remaining length of 2.5 Km will be underground.
Scope of Work in Hyderabad Airport Metro Line Project
Work in the Airport Express Metro Line project includes designing and construction of 9 elevated metro stations at Raidurg, Nanakramguda, TSPA Junction, Mindspace, Biodiversity, Rajender Nagar, Narasingi, Airport Cargo and Shamshabad Junction. Construction of the elevated viaduct also falls in the scope of this project. Further, the only underground metro station of this project will be developed at RGIA Terminal.
The successful bidder will also be responsible for supplying and commissioning of rolling stock including traction and power supply. Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) works and other associated works are also included in the scope of work of this project.
HAML’s tender specifies a completion period of 36 months for this project.
About Hyderabad Metro’s Airport Express Line Project
The foundation stone for the Airport Express Metro line was laid on 9th December 2022 by chief minister of Telangana. This 31 Km long Airport Express Metro line is a part of Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 project which is 63 Km in length. Hyderabad phase 2 metro project will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 8,453 crore and it is likely to be completed by 2030.
Phase 2 of the Hyderabad Metro project includes development of 1 new line, i.e. the Airport Metro line, and extension of three existing lines of Hyderabad Metro.
