L&T – Alstom JV Emerge L1 Bidder for Mumbai Metro’s Rolling Stock & Signaling Contract
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in Joint Venture (JV) with Alstom Transport India has emerged Lowest (L1) bidder for supplying 234 metro coaches and executing signaling works for Mumbai Metro’s Line-4 & Line-4A which collectively span 35.2 Km. Line-4 of Mumbai Metro will connect Wadala to Kasarvadavali and line-4A will connect Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh. These works fall under Package CA-234 of Mumbai Metro.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) invited bids for this project with an estimated cost of Rs. 4,297.49 crore. However, L&T – Alstom Transport JV’s bid for this project has not been disclosed.
Scope of work in Package CA-234 includes designing, manufacturing, supplying, testing, and commissioning the metro coaches for the Mumbai Metro. Execution works for Communication-Based Signalling & Train Control (CBTC) will also be executed in this contract. Apart from this, supply and installation of platform screen door systems along with their testing and commissioning are included in this tender.
L&T-Alstom JV will be liable for 2-year defect liablity period for this project. Following this, the company will provide maintenance service for the coaches for a period of 15 years.
As per this tender, the first prototype trainset is expected to be delivered in a period of 52 weeks, and 9 more trainsets are supposed to be delivered in 70 weeks from the contract signing date. Subsequently, 10 more trains are expected to be delivered in a period of 88 weeks from the date of signing the contract. MMRDA’s tender specifies that the next 10 trainsets should be delivered in 104 weeks and the remaining 9 trainsets in 112 weeks from the date of signing the contract.
