L&T Green Wins IOCL’s Panipat Green H2 Project Contract
L&T Energy Green Tech (L&T Green) has emerged as the winner of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.’s (IOCL) tender to establish a 10 Kilo Tonne Per Annum (KTPA) Green Hydrogen plant. The project will be developed under a Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) model at IOCL’s refinery and petrochemical complex in Panipat, Haryana. L&T Green outbid ReNew E Fuels and NTPC Green Energy to secure this project.
L&T Green will supply Green Hydrogen to IOCL from this to-be-developed plant at a fixed price of Rs. 397 per Kg for a duration of 25 years. The project is expected to be completed within 30 months. Tender for this project was floated by IOCL in April 2024.
IOCL’s 2030 target is to have 350 KTPA of Green Hydrogen generation capacity. In terms of volume, by 2030, IOCL expects 50% of the total Hydrogen generated by it to be Green Hydrogen. The company is currently exploring different Green Hydrogen generation technologies which include biomass-based generation along with electrolyser-based generation. The company is also working on converting existing natural gas pipelines in order to transport Green Hydrogen.
