LAPP Inaugurates its First Cable Compounding Plant in Bhopal

LAPP India, part of the German LAPP Gruppe, inaugurated its compounding plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. This plant is LAPP Group’s first such facility, and it was inaugurated by Mr. Matthias Lapp, Chairman of the Board of LAPP Holding SE & CEO LA EMEA (Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Africa). Further, the event was attended by Lapp Group’s top officials.

At the inauguration of LAPP’s 36,000 sq.ft. Bhopal compounding plant, Mr. Matthias Lapp said that the new plant is equipped with ‘cutting-edge’ technologies such as ‘Automatic Dosage System’ and ‘predictive intelligence’. He added that this signifies “LAPP India’s dedication to ‘Make in India’ initiatives”, giving a push to “local production and regional growth”.

LAPP’s LinkedIn post from 10th February 2024 explained that the aforementioned technologies have been deployed at the plant to maintain “quality and consistency in the compound mixing process”.

Plant to Manufacture LAPP Group’s In-House Formulations, Enhance Backward Integration

Inauguration of LAPP’s Bhopal Compounding Facility

LAPP’s Bhopal compounding plant will manufacture in-house formulations devised by the Group’s ‘Compounding Plant Braintrust’, which is a collaboration of experts from LAPP USA, LAPP Germany, LAPP Switzerland and LAPP Korea. This collaboration is responsible for creation of specialised compounds for different types of cables.

Explaining the significance of this plant, Mr. Gary Bateman, Managing Director of LAPP India, said, “…newly inaugurated plant…is initiating a journey of backward integration for development of proprietary compound. He added, “Beyond meeting India’s growing demand for high-quality cables, this state-of-the-art facility signifies a commitment to fostering India’s industrial growth by fueling innovation and local employment opportunities”.

E-beam Charger Set up for Enhanced Performance Cables

In addition to the compounding plant, LAPP India has also installed an e-beam charger at Bhopal to “…address the growing industrial needs and applications in Railways, Metro, Renewable Eneregy, and e-Mobility”, as per its LinkedIn post.

E-beam chargers are used to fortify compounds for cables through polymer cross-linking, enhancing their durability and performance.

Compounding Facility Latest Addition to Existing Bhopal Plant

LAPP’s plant in Bhopal was established in 2012, and was initially involved in the production of single-core cables. Thereafter, LAPP India began the production of single-core and multi-core solar cables at Bhopal.

The inauguration of this compounding plant marks the latest addition to LAPP’s facility in Bhopal.
