Kirloskar’s New Pump Manufacturing Unit for Nuclear Plants

Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL), a major Indian industrial pump manufacturer, has set up a new manufacturing division at its main plant in Kirloskarvadi, Maharashtra. The new manufacturing division has been named Advanced Technology Product Division (ATPD) which will manufacture high-end technology products, especially those used for nuclear applications.

Kirloskar’s ATPD facility has been built over 6000 sq. mtrs. area and is fully equipped with modern machines and test facilities, including special measuring instruments. The manufacturing plant has facilities like machining, quality control checks, assembly, and testing under high pressure and temperature.

Kirloskar’s Sodium and Concrete Volute Pumps for Nuclear Power Plants

KBL in its press statement informed that it is already manufacturing pumping solutions for various critical applications in the nuclear industry, the ATPD division will strenghthen its capabilities in this area.

Kirloskar is the first and major manufacturer of primary and secondary sodium pumps for nuclear Fast Breeder Reactors (FBR) in India. It also manufactures primary heat transfer pumps for the nuclear sector. Besides these Kirloskar also supplies Concrete Volute Pumps (CVP) for both nuclear and thermal power plants across India. All these will now be manufactured at new ATPD facility.

Expressing his views on the occasion in press statement Mr. Alok Kirloskar, Director, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. said “We decided to build this dedicated unit for the upgradation of our existing products as well as the development of futuristic and technologically advanced solutions for the nuclear application segment”.

KBL to Utilise Existing Facilities at Kirloskarvadi-India’s First Industrial Township

Kirloskarvadi, established in 1910 is regarded as India’s first industrial township. According to information provided on KBL website Kirloskarvadi plant houses Asia’s only 3-D printing machine for pump modelling and also houses Asia’s largest hydraulic testing facility for testing centrifugal pumps which would be very helpful for ATPD to carry out manufacturing operations.
