JSW Steel, Japan’s JFE Steel to Set up 5,500 Cr. Electrical Steel Plant in India

A Joint Venture (JV) between India’s JSW Steel Limited and Japan’s JFE Steel Corporation will be developing a grain-oriented electrical steel manufacturing plant in Ballari district of Karnataka. This JV, named JSW JFE Electrical Steel Private Limited, will develop this plant at an estimated cost of Rs. 5,500 crore.

Groundbreaking ceremony for this plant was performed on 12th February 2024. Further, the company is expected to begin production at this upcoming plant in financial year 2027. JSW Steel-JFE Steel JV plans to expand its capacity to meet the growing demand of grain-oriented electrical steel in India. JSW’s press release dated 13th February 2024 stated that JSW JFE Electrical Steel Private Ltd. will be the first end-to-end producer of grain-oriented electrical Steel products in India.

Grain oriented electrical steel is a key material in the assembly of large, high performance generators and high efficiency power and distribution transformers.

Earlier in August 2023, JSW Steel Limited and JFE Steel Corporation of Japan had signed JV agreement to manufacture Cold Rolled Grain-Oriented (CRGO) electrical steel products in India.
