Inox Solar to Invest Rs. 4,000 Cr. for 4.8 GW Solar Cell & Module Plant in Odisha
Inox Solar, a subsidiary of Inox Clean Energy which is a part of the INOXGFL Group, will be investing Rs. 4,000 crore for setting up a solar cell and module manufacturing plant at Dhenkanal district of Odisha. The state government has allocated about 78 acre of land for the development of this plant.
The company’s upcoming plant will have the capacity to manufacture 4.8 GW of solar cells and 4.8 GW of solar modules. This project is expected to generate a total of about 5,400 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Commenting on this development, Mr. Devansh Jain, Executive Director of INOXGFL Group, said “This strategic land allocation allows us to expand our solar energy footprint, reinforcing our commitment to India’s clean energy goals”.
Mr. Mohan Charan Majhi, CM of Odisha, said, “By facilitating the establishment of a solar cell and module manufacturing plant, we are not only promoting sustainable industrial growth but also creating new job opportunities and boosting economic development across the state”.
Inox Solar’s plant assumes significance on account of solar cell manufacturing. While many solar module manufacturers are still dependent on imported solar cells for production, India is targeting full backward integration when it comes to solar module manufacturing. In fact, through a December 2024 order, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has set June 2026 as the deadline for all solar module manufacturers in the country to use 100% India-made solar cells for production. As of now, India has a collective annual solar module manufacturing capacity of 63 GW, whereas domestic solar cell manufacturing stands at merely 5.8 GW per annum.
