Indian Govt. Allows DISCOMS to Settle Dues by EMIs within 4 Years
Ministry of Power, GoI has notified the Electricity (Late Payment Surcharge and Related Matters) Rules, 2022 on 3rd June 2022. As per this notification, DISCOMS will be allowed the payment of dues including late payment surcharge to power generation companies, inter-state transmission licensees, and electricity trading licensees in monthly instalments.
DISCOMS with total dues more than Rs 10,000 crore will have 48 months (4 years) to pay their dues, while those with dues in the range of Rs 4,001 crore to Rs 10,000 crore get 40 months. DISCOMS whose dues fall between Rs 2,001 crore and Rs 4,000 crore will have 34 months while the ones with Rs 1,001 crore to Rs 2,000 crore worth of outstanding dues will get 28 months to repay them. Distribution Entities with Rs 501 crore to Rs 1,000 crore of dues will get 20 instalments whereas those with less than Rs 500 crore of outstanding dues will get 12 months to make the payment.
