India Amends Biofuels Policy, 2030 Ethanol Blending Target Shifted to 2025-26
Union Government has amended its policy on biofuels to achieve 20% ethanol-petrol blending by 2025-26 instead of 2030. The National Policy on Biofuels (2018) was amended by the Union Cabinet on 18th May 2022.
Amendment to the policy also entails encouraging ethanol production under the ‘Make in India’ programme in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Export Oriented Units (EoUs). The cabinet also approved the export of biofuels in ‘specific cases’.
Currently, ethanol-blended fuel in India comprises 10% ethanol blended with 90% petrol.
