First Unit of Sawra-Kuddu Hydroelectric Project to go Live in April

Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd’s (HPPCL) Sawra-Kuddu Hydroelectric project’s first unit of 37 MW will begin power generation by April 2020. Total capacity of run-of-river project is 111 MW (3 X 37) and on Pabbar river in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh.

The execution of the project had begun in 2007, but the main hurdle was the excavation of 11.365 km headrace tunnel in construction. The work of filling headrace tunnel will start shortly.

After the complete commissioning of the project, it will generate 386 million units per annum in a 90 percent dependable year, earning a revenue of Rs 115 crore to the state.
