CESC Commissions Floating Solar Microgrid with Battery Storage
Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) announced on 6th May 2022, that it has commissioned India’s first floating solar microgrid with Battery Energy Storage Service (BESS).
This microgrid is situated in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district over an area of 6,000 square feet. The batteries in the BESS use gel type technology, which makes them safer than conventional lead-acid batteries.
Speaking about this project, CESC MD (Distribution), Mr Debashish Banerjee said “This microgrid plant with 100KW floating solar system and 218KWh with battery storage is in place now for trial and we will study and analyse for a year before deciding to expand the model in other locations within our distribution area”.
Battery storage with Renewable Energy (RE) generation facility makes the supply of power more reliable. Energy can be fed to batteries, from where it can be released consistently even at times of low or no energy generation.
