Andhra Pradesh releases 2,984 Cr to Discoms under UDAY scheme
In a big relief to the discoms of Andhra Pradesh, the state government has approved disbursal Rs. 2,984 Cr of long-pending dues of the Central, State generating stations and renewable energy generators.
Relief to Andhra Discoms under the UDAY Program
Distribution companies all over the country have been struggling financially due to huge burden of dues on them. This relief package to the discoms of Andhra Pradesh has been provided under the Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY) program, which aims to help struggling state-run distribution companies by providing them required financial assistance.
This relief package is against losses incurred during the financial years 2017-18 and 2018-19 and comprises 25% of the losses thus incurred.
Breakup of the Disbursed Amount
Out of the total disbursed amount, Rs. 2,199 Cr went to central and state generating power stations, and the rest went to wind and solar generators for dues up to December 2019. Below is the complete breakup of the amount:

Some of the major beneficiaries in CGS, SGS segment are NTPC Limited with Rs. 325 Crore, AP Power Distribution Companies Pool Account (APPCC) Rs. 323 Crore and NTPC NSM-PSM got Rs. 520 Crore.
In the wind generators segment Axis Wind Farms got 23 Cr and Tata Renewable got Rs. 17 Cr.
There have been many issues in the Discom Sector of Andhra Pradesh lately. Payments had been put on hold mainly due to corruption charges in the previous government.
The disbursal of this package may give some relief to the Discoms as well as the dependent industry suppliers.
