AERB Approves Excavation Works for Two 700 MW Nuclear Plants in Karnataka
Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), on 31st March 2022, gave its approval for the excavation works for building two nuclear power plants of 700 MW capacity each at Kaiga Generating Station in Karwar district of Karnataka.
Permission has been given for development of units 5 and 6 of the Kaiga Generating Station, which will be developed as indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) units.
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is undertaking the task of building these nuclear power plants. The work is already underway and NPCIL has completed the work on bifurcation fencing at the site, which separates the other four units at Kaiga from the site of units 5 and 6.
