ABB shall use the latest digital technology to supply continuous electricity, with Compact Secondary Substations (CSS) to ensures a steady and reliable power supply to all connections of Indore city.

Indore is the largest city of Madhya Pradesh and also part of the Central Government’s mission to develop 100 smart cities across the country. ABB is manufacturing these Compact Substations locally in India.

In the first phase of the collaboration, this technology has already enabled more than 2300 connections to achieve 24/7 electricity supply with an efficient automatic response system (ARS) in case of power outages or disruption. Now ABB and ISCDL plan to replicate the same model in other areas of the city.

ABB’s Compact Secondary Substations (CSS) with SCADA for Remote Monitoring

ABB’s Compact Secondary Substations (CSS) to be deployed in the Indore smart city project comes with inbuilt SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) for remote monitoring. This will help maintain a healthy network and quick restoration of electricity in case of faults.

These Compact Substations also have inbuilt Feeder Remote Terminal Units which keep a real-time check on consumption by individual connections outgoing from substation. Also, these CSS can be monitored from a central command centre connected by SCADA for power demand and supply management. These compact substations are also tested for personnel safety so could be deployed easily in populated areas.
