NTPC to Develop Projects worth Rs. 96,000 Cr. in Chhattisgarh

NTPC Limited along with its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), has signed various agreements with Chhattisgarh government for developing projects worth a total of Rs. 96,000 crore in the state. These agreements were signed during Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit-2025 held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
As per the agreements, NTPC will be responsible for developing nuclear, pumped storage and Renewable Energy (RE) projects in Chhattisgarh.

Nuclear Power Plant to Come up in Chhattisgarh
NTPC Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government of Chhattisgarh for developing 4,200 MW of nuclear power generation capacity in Chhattisgarh. It has not been specified whether this generation capacity will be housed in a single plant or not.
This nuclear power generation capacity will be developed at a total estimated cost of Rs. 80,000 crore, and will be one of NTPC’s largest nuclear energy endeavours.
Currently, Chhattisgarh has no nuclear power plant. Therefore, NTPC will be the first to develop nuclear power generation capability in the state.
As per a PIB release dated 3rd February 2025, Indian government targets to achieve 100 GW nuclear power capacity by 2047. As of 30th January 2025, India’s nuclear power generation capacity was 8,180 MW.
Chhattisgarh to have its first Pumped Storage Project
Apart from the development of nuclear power project in Chhattisgarh, NTPC Limited has also signed an MoU with Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL). This MoU is for developing a 1,200 MW Pumped Storage Project (PSP) at Sikaser in Gariyaband district of Chhattisgarh.
Chhattisgarh currently has no operational pumped storage projects. Therefore, aforementioned PSP that is being developed by NTPC will mark the first such project in the state.
NTPC’s Subsidiary to Develop RE projects in Chhattisgarh
NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd., has signed a Joint Venture agreement with Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company for setting up Renewable Energy projects in the state. These projects will be wind, solar projects and wind-solar hybrid projects. The projects will collectively have a power generation capacity of up to 2 GW. The company will be investing about Rs. 10,000 crore for developing these RE projects.
As per NTPC, these RE projects will help to meet Renewable Generation Obligation (RGO) of Chhattisgarh GENCO and Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) of Chhattisgarh DISCOM.
