Lubrizol Corp. to Invest USD 200 Million in New Plant in India

Lubrizol Corporation, a manufacturer of lubricants, polymers and speciality chemicals, will invest approximately USD 200 million (about Rs. 1,674 crore) to build a lubricant and fuel additive manufacturing plant in Bidkin Industrial Area, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad). This plant will produce lubricants for both vehicles and machinery.
Lubrizol’s Second-Largest Manufacturing Plant
Lubrizol has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maharashtra government to acquire 120 acre of land for this project. According to the company’s press release dated 30th July 2024, this new plant will be Lubrizol’s second-largest globally and its largest in India.
The investment will be made through the company’s Indian subsidiary, Lubrizol India Private Ltd. This plant is expected to cater to growing demand of Lubricants in India and also support exports to neighbouring countries.
The plant is projected to create approximately 900 job opportunities in Aurangabad, with construction planned in phases over the coming years. The company is expected to start operations at this plant in 2028.
Commenting further on this development, Mr. Nitin Mengi, Vice President of Lubrizol Additives India, Middle East and Africa (IMEA) and Chairman & Managing Director of Lubrizol India Private Limited, said “This announcement underscores our continued commitment to our employees, our partners and our customers in the region”. He further added “The growing transportation and industrial markets in India represent a tremendous opportunity [for Lubrizol]”.
“Meaningful Investments in India for More than 5 Decades”– President, Lubrizol Additives
Mr. Flavio Kliger, President of Lubrizol Additives, said “Lubrizol has made meaningful investments in India for more than five decades”.
Mentioning its previous investments in India, the company stated in its press release that Lubrizol had announced an investment of about USD 150 million in 2023. This sum included investment for constructing the world’s largest Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) resin plant in Vilayat, Gujarat, and for increasing CPVC production at its Dahej plant. The Vilayat plant will have a CPVC production capacity of 1,00,000 Metric Tonne (MT). At its plant in Dahej, Lubrizol will double CPVC production from 70,000 MT to 1,40,000 MT. These projects are expected to be operational by early 2025.
Lubrizol opened a grease lab in Navi Mumbai in February 2023 and a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Pune in April 2024. These projects were also a part of Lubrizol’s aforementioned USD 150 million investment.
