Toyota India Launches Flex Fuel Vehicle, Signs MoU with IISc
Toyota launched its Flex Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicle (FFV-SHEV), Toyota Corolla Altis, in India on 11th October 2022. As part of this launch, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Toyota Kirloskar Motors and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
According to this MoU, Toyota will share its data with IISc to study the carbon emission of FFV-SHEVs in Indian environment.
This vehicle has been designed to run on blended fuel, and it can use ethanol-blended fuel containing 20% to 100% ethanol. In an FFV-SHEV the engine provides flexible fuel options, while the vehicle has an electric powertrain. This means that the vehicle can be operated as an Electric Vehicle when the engine is shut off.
The Toyota Corolla Altis which was used during this launch had been imported from Brazil.
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, who was present during the launch said that there is a need to switch to electric vehicles and vehicles that run on biofuels to keep environmental pollution in check.
