THDC India Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan Government for developing two Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) in the state. These PSPs will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 8,800 crore and will have a collective capacity of 1,600 MW.

THDC India to Develop 1,600 MW Pumped Storage Projects in Rajathan
Both of THDC India’s upcoming pumped storage projects will have a capacity of 800 MW. One of these PSPs, Bisanpura PSP, will be developed in Bundi district of Rajasthan, while the other one, Rampura PSP, will be established in Tonk district of Rajasthan.
Bisanpura PSP will utilize water from Gudha Dam, situated 12 Km away from the project site. Meanwhile, Rampura PSP will source water from an existing reservoir in Bisalpur.
Job Creation & Sustainable Development Through PSPs in Rajasthan
Each of these pumped storage projects is expected to generate 25 lakh direct and indirect job opportunities in Rajasthan. The company’s press release also mentioned that these projects will be developed as off-stream* closed-loop systems**.
*In pumped storage projects, off-stream refers to facilities that utilize separate reservoirs rather than being directly connected to a river or natural water source.
**Closed loop systems in PSP involve the recirculation of water between an upper and a lower reservoir, with no reliance on external water sources.
Mr. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical) at THDC India, added that these pumped storage projects are designed to provide reliable energy storage and generation while also promoting local employment and infrastructural development.
Mr. R K Vishnoi mentioned, “These projects will harness our expertise in hydro technology, ensuring efficient energy storage and sustainable solutions that benefit both the environment and the local economy”.
